Grand Huts Association

A group of local Fraser Valley backcountry enthusiasts recognized the importance of the Second Creek Cabin and formed a nonprofit organization, Grand Huts Association, to support the development of backcountry huts in Grand County.

Creating Huts from Berthoud Pass to Grand Lake

GHA’s goal is to create an eco-friendly hut system in Grand County Colorado that will stretch from Berthoud Pass to Grand Lake. The hut system will preserve the environment while sustaining activities in the backcountry. GHA will work to re-open public use cabins already in existence on public and private lands and build new structures, where appropriate, to assist in managing intense use of fragile ecosystems.

The Broom Hut, originally called the Second Creek Hut, in the Second Creek Basin on the west side of Berthoud Pass, was the first project completed by GHA. Ease of access to this hut and relative safety from avalanches makes for excellent backcountry recreation opportunities. The support of the Grand Foundation made the Broome Hut a reality.
